Soodie Beasley, AM
Soodie Beasley is an Accredited member of the American Society of Appraisers and a personal property appraiser of furniture, antiques and decorative arts, with a special interest in furniture designed by decorators and designers. She has worked in both Los Angeles and Kansas City as an appraiser for the past eight years, as well as in the interior design field designing interiors and procuring furniture.
Soodie has also worked in the museum field curating exhibitions at the Terra Museum of American Art, formerly in Chicago; the Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art in St. Joseph, Missouri; and Museum’s Without Walls in Kansas City, Missouri. She teaches and lectures, and is an Adjunct Instructor at Park University in Parkville, Missouri teaching courses on the History of the Designed Environment.
Soodie earned a B.A. in Art History from William Smith College, Geneva, New York; an M.A. in Art History from the University of Missouri in Kansas City; a Certificate in Appraisal Studies in Fine & Decorative Arts from University of California, Irvine; and a four-year Post-Baccalaureate Designation in Interior Architecture and Design from the University of California, Los Angeles. She is a candidate member of the American Society of Appraisers.
Her published works have appeared in the Journal of Advanced Appraisal Studies, 2009 edition, on the importance of recognizing furnishings designed by decorators from the first half of the twentieth century, and Art & Auction Magazine. She provided research for Houses of Missouri, 1870-1940 (Suburban Domestic Architecture), 2008, by Cydney Millstein and Carol Grove, as well as for German and Netherlandish Paintings 1450-1600: The Collections of the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, 2006, by Burton L. Dunbar, PhD.
In the mix of all this, Soodie was a graphic and web designer for several years serving as Advertising Art Director for a parent company and its subsidiaries which manufactured and globally supplied insulated roof and wall panels for architectural applications.
