Amy Lawch is a graduate gemologist with a specialization in antique and period jewelry. She frequently lectures on jewelry and the auction process. She has been an instructor at the Antique and Period Jewelry and Gemstone Conference in New York. Ms. Lawch spoke to The Friends of the Mansfield Traquair Centre in Edinburgh on Phoebe Anna Traquair, noted Scottish Arts and Crafts artist. She is an accredited appraiser and has been actively involved in the Gulf Coast chapter International Society of Appraisers, The Society of Jewelry Historians and Gemological Institute of America Alumni Association. She spoke about the Golden Age of Jewelry from 1890-1918 at the ISA Annual meeting in Chicago.

Amy Lawch is the owner of A. A. Benjamin, Ltd., a jewelry and appraising business focused on antique and estate jewelry. A. A. Benjamin was named for her grandparents Anna and Benjamin Silver who instilled her with the love of fine jewelry. Besides its main focus on antique and estate jewelry, A. A. Benjamin assists clients in purchasing their dream wedding rings and was three times named “the best place in Houston to purchase an engagement ring” by the Houston Press, and the best place to purchase estate jewelry in Houston by Htexas magazine. Amy and her jewelry business have been the subject of articles in Town and Country magazine, Paper City, Htexas magazine, the Houston Chronicle, The Houston Press, The Jewish Herald Voice and The Villages by Media Ink.

Besides her own business, Ms. Lawch is the representative for Ivey-Selkirk Auctioneers. Ivey Selkirk, one of the oldest privately held auction houses in the U.S., was founded more than one hundred seventy-five years ago in St. Louis. Amy manages the Houston office and is responsible for business activity in Texas and Mexico. Ms. Lawch was the representative for Phillips International Auctioneers (now Phillips de Pury) from 1994-2001. Amy managed the Houston office and was responsible for all business activity in the Southern U. S. She assisted Phillips at their jewelry auctions in New York, London and Geneva.

Prior to her foray in jewelry, Amy was an international banker for many years working for several foreign banks. She has a BA in English Literature and an MBA in Finance. She is also active in a number of local charity and arts organizations in Houston.
