Bruce M. Schuettinger is president of Schuettinger Conservation Services, Inc located in New Market, MD. Originally established in 1983 through a sole proprietorship, then Antique Restorations Ltd., and now Schuettinger Conservation Services, Inc. the firm specializes in the conservation treatment of and preservation consulting for wooden artifacts for museums, government institutions, and private collectors. Bruce M. Schuettinger is a Professional Associate Member of the American Society for the Preservation of Historic and Artistic Works (AIC) and a member of the Washington Conservation Guild. The firm combines traditional craft techniques and skills with the most resent advancements in conservation techniques and materials to device thoughtful and responsible treatments for the continued preservation of cultural property. The firm is accomplished in the traditional furniture making art of marquetry, inlay, veneering, carving, turning, hand joiner, finishing, paint decoration, and gilding. The firm specializes in the preservation of original or appropriate older presentation surfaces on wood, metals, and other materials.


Clients of the firm have included U.S. Government agencies such as the Department of the Treasury, Department of State, and the Library of Congress, Museums and Institutions such as the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum, Historic Annapolis Foundation, Hillwood Museum and Garden and the Folger Shakespeare Library. Schuettinger Conservation Services, Inc regularly consults with institutions and private clients in developing treatment plans, storage and usage parameters, and complete or partial collection surveys. Bruce M. Schuettinger was a past accredited member of ISA where he served as president for National Capitol Area Chapter NCAC for two years as well as there treasurer for two years. Bruce is a past faculty member of the George Washington University Appraisal Studies and Connoisseur Program, where he developed and taught two courses between1993 to 2003 entitled “Fundamentals of Authenticating Furniture” and “Regionalism in American Furniture 1750-1830. He is a frequent lecturer on furniture conservation to the appraisal, museum and conservation industries.
