Robert J. Corey, Ph.D. Following a career in industrial management (1977-1984), Dr. Corey taught marketing, and product and price policy courses at the university level for twenty years (1985-2006) prior to founding RJ Corey & Associates. The study of markets, products, and pricing served as a foundation for his interest in appraising. He received professional training in the principles of valuation, and the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice at the University of Georgia, sponsored by the American Society of Appraisers and the Appraisal Foundation, and maintains an active appraisal and forensic consulting practice serving Charlotte County and Southwest Florida.
Dr. Corey is a member of the Charlotte County Chamber of Commerce, a recipient of the Chamber's "Business of the Month - Exceeding Expectations" award, and a Candidate Member of the American Society of Appraisers. His academic publications have appeared in more than a dozen professional journals and conference proceedings. From 2006 to 2007, he wrote a regular series of articles for the Charlotte Sun-Herald newspaper under the title, "Ask the Appraiser."
As a social scientist, Dr. Corey’s interests lie in the advancement of social science methodologies and their application to appraisal practice. In his recent article, “Combining Metrics, Standards and Connoisseurship: A Weighted Factor Scoring Model,” published in the Journal of Advanced Appraisal Studies 2009, he teamed with Todd Sigety, ISA CAPP to introduce a practical alternative appraisal methodology accepted and used by other professional disciplines to add a measure of objectivity to appraisal practice.
He has developed an interest and measure of expertise in the appraisal of mid-century modern furniture and has had the opportunity to appraise a wide variety of pieces by Isamu Noguchi and George Nakashima.
